visual culture is often embedded within the sounds and rhythms of distinct musical methods and eras. whether it be the the work of jean-michel basquiat that arises from the agitation of GRAY, or the tones of bebop jazz, the majority of visual artistic output is complemented by musical exploration. each week, i’ll endeavour to use music and aural culture to enlighten an important piece of artistic history, transcending it’s purely aesthetic medium, and imbuing each work with unique angles into its conception, importance and legacy. ‘ways of hearing’ will take the listener through a journey of art history, one playlist at a time.
