K.O.G is one of the brightest lights in the current UK scene, pushing the bounds of Afrofuturism and Afro-fusion with every new step. His debut LP “Zone 6, Agege” is an incredible journey, celebrating the area in Accra where Kweku grew up. The performances across the project are constantly varied and consistently incredible, with vibrant, high-pitched afrobeat numbers blending into heavy dub cuts that will blow your socks off. K.O.G is certainly a perennial artist who deserves your attention.
I was fortunate enough to talk to Kweku about his debut album and his influences, before experiencing one of the most joyous, effervescent live shows I’ve ever seen. I hope you enjoy!
Pete Wareham of Melt Yourself Down is a greatly influential figure in the UK. He’s been involved in projects nominated for the Mercury Prize twice, and has played alongside a multitude of prolific musicians. His new venture ‘Melt Yourself Down’ recently released a beaufifully frantic, genre-defying LP, with North African rhythms punctuated by grimy synths and wailing sax, this is not an album to be left unheard.
This was my first interview and I was really nervous (as you can tell) but Pete was so kind, not only in the depth of his answers, but also in how seriously he took me given the makeshift nature of where we were recording the interview. Thanks to the band, and please enjoy!
